First heat treatment batch quenched in the new Tower furnace (Ofen 15).

On March 30th 2021, the first heat treatment batch was successfully completed in the newly built Tower furnace.

This was a necessary step towards the qualification of ALUnna’s new Tower furnace following completion of its construction. It was also an important step in order to further advance the qualification process for our revitalised and strategically significant automotive project.

The initial heat treatment took place without deviation from the very strict technical specifications required by the customer. Our engineers and heat treatment specialists were delighted with the results and the excellent temperature uniformity achieved.

Final commissioning of the new Tower furnace will be completed in the next few weeks.

We would particularly like to thank the company Ebner for their commitment and continued support in very difficult circumstances due to the pandemic restrictions in force in order deliver this project on time.

On 30.11.2020, the Supervisory Board of our company appointed our long-standing Executive Sales Director Dr. Gerhard Schroeder as Associated General Manager as from 01.12.2020.

Dr. Schroeder will work jointly with Mr. Volker Findeisen, whose current appointment to the Board of Management has been extended for another year, to drive forward the company's strategic realignment.

The two gentlemen have been pursuing a joint project for several months now. In the centre of the factory, the building for the second tower furnace is progressing well. The project is well on schedule, the installation of the furnace will begin in mid-December and commissioning will be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2021. This investment doubles the capacity for several the company’s strategic products, which are produced for the automotive industry, aerospace and defence.

Three week plant closure

The Coronavirus Pandemic has caused a lot of disturbance and uncertainties during the past, now almost, two months.

We have been hit hard by customer requests for push backs or re-scheduling caused by production stops and shutdowns at the major OEMs in the aerospace and automotive industry. The lower demand within the supply chains resulting in a lower customer consumption is forcing us to accommodate our production rate accordingly. Therefore the board of management has now decided to implement a three week plant closure commencing at the beginning of June. The production will be continued on the lowest possible level, with a minimum staff, to enable a swift return to fully operational production again after this period.

During these three weeks the sales offices are available to be contacted, although of course, also with limited personnel. Please note that during this time the responses might take longer than usual.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but we will endeavor to keep them as low as possible.

Announcement of a Change of ALUnna Sales Representative for Italy

This announcement is to report that our long-time sales representative for Italy, Dr. Colombo is to retire. Over the years, Dr. Colombo has made an extremely valuable contribution to customer and business development, especially in the field of pump bodies, in his work for Aluminiumwerk Unna AG.

After more than 20 years of successful work for Aluminiumwerk Unna AG, Dr. Colombo is to retire. Aluminiumwerk Unna AG would like to thank Dr. Colombo for his outstanding commitment, dedication, patience and perseverance, which have contributed significantly to the success of the company. We wish him many healthy and happy years for the future.

Sig. Luigi Giuliani will succeed Dr. Colombo as ALUnna’s representative in Italy. In his professional career, Sig. Giuliani has worked for several companies in the mobile hydraulic industry, which is so important for ALUnna. We are confident that his experience and commitment will help us to continue our success in the Italian market. We wish Sig. Giuliani every success in his new role.

Delivery dates / capacity

For almost two years, we have faced the great challenge of not being able to fulfill all the delivery dates requested by our customers. On some occasions we caused disappointment amongst our customers as we were unable to meet all delivery expectations. We have now reacted and made some organisational changes. First and foremost, this includes the 100% concentration of our maintenance staff on the availability of the key machinery. This has brought excellent results since the beginning of January. In addition, we have agreed with our production teams on more extended working hours. A third important cornerstone is the consolidation of orders from different customers with the aim of optimising set-up and set-up times. As a final optimisation, we were able to spread out the load on our key machinery more evenly, so that we are now able to offer much shorter delivery dates. We would like to invite you to look through your individual order situation with us and to give us your additional wishes. Your contact persons in sales and production planning will, for each case, coordinate with you in detail which specific commitments we can make to you.

Centenary celebrations of Aluminiumwerk Unna AG

Over the weekend of 12-13th September 2014, Aluminiumwerk Unna AG celebrated its 100th anniversary together with around 1,500 guests. The celebrations took place in the newly refurbished inspection and packing halls (H1.1 and H1.2) at the company. On Friday, 250 guests including customers, suppliers and other stakeholders in the company were invited to attend. A table used to display the many wonderful and creative gifts brought by the guests was overloaded and visibly strained under the weight.

Welcome speeches were made by the mayor of Unna, Werner Kolter, the CEO of the German Aluminium Association Christian Wellner, Wolfgang Milcke, who today is CEO of Unnapur, a neighbouring business of AWU. Speeches were also made by delegates from both of the major shareholders of the company, Michael Lux, representative of the Aluminiumwerk Unna e.V. and Thomas Wiese CEO of the Aluminiumwerk Unna Beteiligungs GmbH.

The days many highlights included detailed plant tours and the premiere of the movie “100 years of Aluwerk – A company with soul” in which the employees of our company described from their point of view, what makes it so special to work for Aluminiumwerk. A number of sapling trees were presented by guests for planting in our small green zone and fundraising contributions from the board were made.

The events of Friday were a prelude to Saturday’s events, considered to be the most important day of the celebrations. 1150 guests principally made up of employee’s families and friends were invited to the company. For the children, a number of activities were offered such as creating Pizza, eating Ice-cream and many games and of course, the plant tour to the working places of the parents. For the adults and children, a huge buffet had been prepared and for the thirsty ones, beverages for the adults and soft drinks for the children were available. The weather conditions were excellent and the superbly organized party was enjoyed by all.

Following the customary welcome speeches made by Michael Lux and Thomas Wiese, which were well received, a special showing of the movie “100 years of Aluwerk – A company with soul” was made to the guests.

Aluminiumwerk Unna AG would like to thank all guests for attending and for making these two extraordinary days of celebration something very special and memorable.

Oliver Kaczmarek visit to Aluminiumwerk Unna AG

On 17th September 2014, MdB (Member of the German Federal Assembly) Herr Oliver Kaczmarek spent two hours of his valuable time visiting local industrial companies in his constituency. At a meeting attended by employees and colleagues from Aluminiumwerk Unna AG, Herr Kaczmarek discussed the ongoing political debate taking place in central government in Berlin concerning the legislation for the Renewable Energy Law (EEG). The issues are centered on how best to achieve a balance of interests between all parties. Aluminiumwerk Unna AG, with 1.3 million Euros net EEG tax and environmental tax (current tax) in 2013 are major payers of this tax. At the meeting, participants calledupon the MP not to lose sight of the taxation burden facing medium-sized industry. With the analogy of the cow being milked vigorously by all local authorities, it is vital to have reliable resources.

In addition to thecentral themes of education, transport infrastructure and bureaucracy, a key risk for the company is that the ever increasing demands placed on the Company from the likes of cold progression (tax bracket creep), social insurance with the automatic increase in the income thresholds and higher property taxes and, in particular, the EEG tax could lead ever further away from a profit to a substance taxation of companies. In terms of global competition, the points are now real disadvantages for German based industry.

Mr.Kaczmarek left the company with plenty to think about. Aluminiumwerk Unna AG would like to extent our thanks to Herr Kaczmarek for his visit.

10th AOK Unna company run

This year, more than 100 Aluminiumwerk Unna AG employees participated in the annual AOK company run. This was the largest team taking part. In spite of a raging thunderstorm half an hour before the start, the race started on time and dry, sparing the runners at least water "from above".

Some of the Unna team runners used the run as preparation for a special athletics Running Badge qualification which they successfully gained three days later. Congratulations on that!

Running together was fun for all and of course the party afterwards too.

Presse Release

Financial year results, 2013

During its regular meeting held on 29.04.2014, the Aluminiumwerk Unna AG Supervisory Board has formally made its financial statement for the 2013 accounts.

Sales declined in the reporting period by 18% to 64.937 million Euros. The main reason was due to the weak state of consumer markets which were in the finale of the EURO crisis.

Net profit fell in the same period by 42.6 % to 3.681 million Euros. In addition to the weak state of the consumer markets this decline was primarily due to additional expenses from the EEG allocation as well as increased property tax.

Investments amounted to 3.766 million Euros, a value of more than one million Euros above the depreciations for the year.

The modernisation and expansion of the plant continues unwaveringly.

The start to 2014 is comparatively subdued. During 2014 the company anticipates a significant recovery in demand. Particularly the re-occurring increase of the EEG renewable energy levy, to subsidise photovoltaic, will complicate the economics.

The Company Annual General Meeting will be held on June 24, 2014 at 11:00 o’clock in the Hotel Katharinen Hof conference rooms, Bahnhofstrasse 49, 59425 Unna.

On September 16 and 17, 2013 the WGM organized the annual Aluminium products workshop with the cooperation of Aluminiumwerk Unna AG. The workshop took place over two days. The first day included a number of interactive presentations focusing on the wide range of products produced and the processes involved in their production. The second day included an extended plant tour of the facilities at AWU. In total there were 40 participants from the associated companies who showed great interest in the processes and product capabilities of Aluminiumwerk Unna AG. First Certification for our Environmental and Energy management systems

During the period between the 10.9.2013 to the 12.9.2013 the evaluation through TUEV North of our Environmental Management (DIN EN ISO 14001) as well as the Energy Management (DIN EN ISO 50001) occurred. The successful conclusion and connected first Certification created a further expansion and integration of our Company Management System. Three intensive audit days, during which each area of the company was put under the spotlight, were had and resulted in the audit-team making a clear recommendation during the debriefing for awarding the Certificate. Never the less we have registered a rash of suggestions where we can better ourselves before the next audit. Our thanks go to all participants for the open and focused discussions. Currently in audit fever, the week after next is a four day audit, through two DQS auditors, for the recertification of our DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN 9100 Management System.

The photo shows the whole Team at the debriefing together with the TUEV North auditors and Mr. Niemann, our external consultant from AVA.
